History of Construction Claims Advisor

Construction Claims and Risk Management is the newly expanded version of the Construction Claims Advisor newsletter, founded in October 2003. Construction Claims Advisor was launched as a digital-only version of the original Construction Claims Monthly newsletter founded in October 1979 by attorney Bruce Jervis and construction engineer Paul Levin.

Construction Claims Monthly quickly became an industry standard among construction attorneys, consultants, contractors and owners, and changed ownership a few times before being shut down by its last owners in April 2019.

Paul serves as Publisher and Bruce has circled back, now serving as the legal editor for the Case Summary feature.

Publishing Team & Executive Leadership

Paul Levin, President of WPL, has published, written, and contributed to numerous newsletters, magazines and publications including Construction Project Controls (sold to Construction Dive in 2017) and Construction Contract Claims and Changes & Dispute Resolution book by ASCE Press, and is publisher emeritus of AI Construction News. He possesses a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and Masters degree in Engineering Administration from The George Washington University. Mr. Levin has worked as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and served as a Senior Consultant with Bechtel, Revay & Associates and Navigant (now Ankura) specializing in scheduling, cost control, dispute resolution and project management oversight for owners and contractors. In addition, Mr. Levin recently ran Construction Schedule Analytics from 2019-2023.

Bruce Jervis, Esq, Legal Editor, is the founding editor of Construction Claims Monthly and its sole editor from 1979 to 2006. He is a licensed attorney with more than 30 years experience in the construction law field. He previously represented contractors, subcontractors and sureties while with the Portland, Maine, law firm of Amerling & Burns. He is the founding editor of Construction Claims Citator and Federal Contract Disputes. He also co-authored the book Construction Law: Principles and Practice, published by the McGraw-Hill Book Co.

Lanna Broyles, Editor-at-Large, has been an editor and writer for more than 20 years, working in a variety of genres, including newspapers, magazines, corporate communications, newsletters, websites, journals, books, entertainment, and direct mail fundraising. Before joining WPL in 2005, Lanna worked for Primedia Inc. and for one of McGraw-Hill’s regional construction magazines, where she reported on projects and issues concerning the construction industry in the Intermountain West. She earned a bachelor’s in print journalism from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree in English from Arizona State University.

Kati Fritz, Customer Service Manager, has over two dozen years working for trade association membership organizations in the Washington, D.C. area.

Madeline Kirsch, contributing editor, has 11 years of experience in strategic communications, marketing, writing and business development for nonprofit organizations and professional services firms.

Patricia (Patti) M. Wysocki, Education & Training Consultant, has helped WPL Publishing Co. build its highly acclaimed webinar and training program over the past ten years. Prior to joining WPL, Patti was the executive director of the Specialized Information Publishers Association where she worked for 23 years. During her tenure, she lectured extensively across the U.S., Canada and Europe on specialized-information publishing topics, and attended more specialized-information publishing conferences and seminars than any other person. From this experience she was able to share what she learned from the hundreds of incredible publishers she met along the way by authoring The Ultimate Guide to Newsletter & Specialized-Information Publishing. Patti has served on the Specialized Information Publishers Foundation board for the past six years, was its president from 2009-2010, and is currently its secretary/treasurer. She has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of both the Specialized Information Publishers Association and its Foundation. Prior to joining SIPA, Patti was the controller and treasurer of two different non-profit associations.
