Construction Claims and Risk Management is an independent publication covering construction claims, contract disputes, and project risk for contractors, construction managers, owners, attorneys, consultants and sureties. Our reporting traces back more than four decades, and our editorial team combines legal, engineering, and publishing experience that few titles in the field can match.

Our History

The publication's roots go back to October 1979, when attorney Bruce Jervis and construction engineer Paul Levin founded Construction Claims Monthly. It quickly became an industry standard among construction attorneys, consultants, contractors, and owners. The newsletter changed hands several times over the following decades before its last owners shut it down in April 2019.In October 2003, the franchise moved online as Construction Claims Advisor, a digital-only successor to the print monthly. This publication, Construction Claims and Risk Management, is the newly expanded version of Construction Claims Advisor. Paul Levin serves as Publisher, and Bruce Jervis has come full circle, returning as Legal Editor for the Case Summary feature.

Editorial and Leadership Team

Paul Levin, Publisher. President of WPL Publishing Co., Paul has published, written, and contributed to numerous newsletters, magazines, and books, including Construction Project Controls (sold to Construction Dive in 2017) and Construction Contract Claims, Changes & Dispute Resolution (ASCE Press). He is publisher emeritus of AI Construction News. Paul holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in engineering administration from The George Washington University. He has served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and as a senior consultant with Bechtel, Revay & Associates, and Navigant (now Ankura), specializing in scheduling, cost control, dispute resolution, and project management oversight for owners and contractors. From 2019 to 2023 he ran Construction Schedule Analytics.

Bruce Jervis, Esq., Legal Editor. Bruce is the founding editor of Construction Claims Monthly and was its sole editor from 1979 to 2006. A licensed attorney with more than 30 years in construction law, he previously represented contractors, subcontractors, and sureties at the Portland, Maine, firm of Amerling & Burns. He founded Construction Claims Citator and Federal Contract Disputes, and co-authored Construction Law: Principles and Practice (McGraw-Hill).

Lanna Broyles, Editor-at-Large. Lanna has spent more than 20 years as an editor and writer across newspapers, magazines, corporate communications, newsletters, websites, journals, books, entertainment, and direct mail fundraising. Before joining WPL in 2005, she worked for Primedia Inc. and for one of McGraw-Hill's regional construction magazines, covering projects and issues in the Intermountain West. She holds a bachelor's in print journalism from Brigham Young University and a master's in English from Arizona State University.

Patricia (Patti) M. Wysocki, Education & Training Consultant. Over the past ten years, Patti has helped WPL build its highly regarded webinar and training program. She previously spent 23 years at the Specialized Information Publishers Association, serving as executive director and lecturing across the U.S., Canada, and Europe on specialized-information publishing. She is the author of The Ultimate Guide to Newsletter & Specialized-Information Publishing. Patti has served on the Specialized Information Publishers Foundation board for the past six years, was its president in 2009-2010, and is currently its secretary/treasurer. She is a member of the Hall of Fame of both the association and its foundation, and earlier in her career was controller and treasurer of two non-profit associations.

Madeline Kirsch, Contributing Editor. Madeline brings 11 years of experience in strategic communications, marketing, writing, and business development for nonprofit organizations and professional services firms.

Karlie Kelsch, Copy Editor and Production Manager. Karlie holds a BA in editing and publishing from Brigham Young University. When she's not fixing spelling or overthinking comma rules, she enjoys fiction, embroidery, and ballet classes.

Kati Fritz, Customer Service Manager. Kati has more than 25 years of experience working with trade association membership organizations in the Washington, D.C., area.
